“Wake Up Sleeper” is one of my newest songs. The lyrics are a poem written by a mid 19th C. Persian Poetess whose really my creative (and spiritual!) muse right now, called Tahirih. She’s amazing. The music and melody are my own. This is part of a new repertoire of “Lover”-themed songs, which I’m in the process of making into an album… The Cello is a new instrument for me, i’m just trying it out; Tahirih’s poems just seemed to demand a soundscape that was a bit more freeform than the guitar was allowing me, so i had to get over my natural feeling of unworthiness before this majestic orchestral instrument and allow something simple but real to come out. I’m really enjoying it, though i know i’ve still got a bit of ‘muscle memory’ to work on. Please forgive!
I will be uploading at least one new original song each week, on cello, guitar, dulcimer, banjo… So if you’re liking what you hear, go ahead and subscribe! Hope you enjoy.
(I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to upload a video… not sure this feels auspicious enough. But here goes! Less being ‘precious’, more being brave!) xx
